Microbiology department was established in the year 2014 with a goal to understand the importance of microbes and its role in the environment as well as agriculture/horticulture sciences. Microbes are present everywhere in our atmosphere. Many of the microbes are beneficial to our agriculture and horticulture community. Microbes are very important in terms of nitrogen fixation wherein they are the main components of biofertilizers. Microbes are also used as a industrial source to produce beneficial compounds that are important to society in the present scenario. Horticulture also deals with study of harmful microorganisms such as pathogens. Pathogens infect crop species those cause yield loss. The department provides hands on training on isolating microbes and characterizing them using various microbiological and molecular biology tools. The department has very good microbiology laboratory with required instruments. Instruments include simple and compounds microscopes, Autoclave, hot air oven, laminar airflow chamber, weighing balance, rotary centrifuge, incubation chamber, refrigerator for storage and tools required to carry out the experiments. The basic theory is explained from experts present in the department through lectures and multimedia devices. Overall, the students are made to understand the necessary understanding of microbes in this environment/ agriculture/ horticulture so that it could be applied in field of science in future.

Biotechnology department was established in the year 2014. Biotechnology involves study of the inner world of the biological system. The important factor/component of living cells is understood through various research and applications. The central dogma of life involving deoxyribonucleic acid and ribonucleic acid, its underlying mechanism to carry out the function of either prokaryotes or eukaryotes are well understood through biotechnological tools. Biotechnology is one of the major tools in the present scientific scenario through which a number of huge problems are solved for scientific community. The department particularly emphasizes on the basic understanding of the biotechnology and its applications through various lectures. In horticulture, the department specially focuses on tissue culture techniques and recombinant DNA technology in the field of Plant science. Practical trainings are provided to students on the above technologies. The department has controlled atmospheric systems to carry out the work. Tissue culture laboratory have been established with tissue culture racks, Air conditioning for controlled temperature and required lights for providing lux for the tissue culture plantlets. Compound microscopes are available in lab to carry out dissection of important explants. A separate laminar air flow had been established to carry our tissue culture works. For molecular biology, instruments including autoclave, hot air oven, incubation chamber, rotary centrifuge, laminar cabinet, Alpha image, weighing balance, refrigerator, micropipettes and necessary tools are available in the laboratory.
