The department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry was established in the year 2014. Soil science deals with soil as a natural resource on the surface of the earth including soil formation, classification and mapping. The main objective of this department is to teach and to carry out research on the fundamental and applied aspects of the physical, chemical and biological properties of soil, fertilizers and manures and their interaction with soil and plant. Special emphasis on soil science education is made.
The department has well equipped laboratories in the areas of Soil Physics, Soil Chemistry & Fertility. Sophisticated instruments like pH meter, colorimeter, UV – VIS Spectrophotometer, Flame photometer are available in the laboratory. Students are subjected to undergo visits wherein they learn soil sampling, fertilizer recommendations, soil fertility management, liming of acid soils, management of salt affected soils, etc. in various farmers field across the zone.
